Black Caviar lived to her world number one ranking on Derby Day, Saturday April 9, taking the TJ Smith Stakes Group 1 race by 2.75 lengths, bringing her wins to an impressive 12 from 12 starts.
What happened was stunning. In front of a 25,000-plus crowd, Black Caviar lengthened her stride to surge past Hay List on the home stretch like he was a maiden. He is a great horse. She remarkably beat Hay List, and the rest by 5 lengths flying past the pack in a matter of seconds.Winning the Derby was the Danny O'Brien-trained Shamrocker, tipped to become the first filly to take out the first AJC Australian Derby-Oaks double.
Doncaster Day (Handicap mile) will be held this Saturday, April 16, which includes the running of the Patinack Farm 100th AJC Oaks along with the $2 million Emirates Doncaster mile. The Gai Waterhouse-trained, and popular 4-year-old mare 'More Joyous' is the Doncaster favourite.
